Nautical
Quality Tanks for Boating and Vessels
M.E.RIN produces flexible tanks made of rubberized fabric in various shapes and sizes, suitable for both original equipment and replacement of existing tanks.
Typical applications include offshore race boats, pleasure yachts, military special operations boats, patrol boats, and 50 Au.
The flexible tank can have a flame-retardant or self-sealing wall.
Our tanks can be used with all types of fuels. In cases where fuels contain high percentages of alcohol (over 20%), the internal surface of the tank is protected with fluorinated polymers.
The marine tanks can hold gasoline and pass the fire test as required by standards 150/10088 (see DNV certificate and video) and 150/21487.
M.E.RIN can manufacture nautical tanks with capacities up to 5000 liters. All tanks are custom-made according to the client's design.
ORIGINAL BLADDER FUEL TANKS REPLACEMENT
Traditionally, tanks for nautical use (yachts, catamarans, other vessels) are made of stainless steel or are integrally composite. Both solutions present certain issues:
1. STAINLESS STEEL TANKS
Over time, galvanic corrosion can occur at the welds, leading to tank perforation. Repair or replacement is a complex and costly activity that may also require the dismantling of structural parts.
2. STRUCTURAL TANKS
This solution does not always guarantee fuel containment, as imperfect sealing can result in permeation into large areas of the vessel's structure.
The use of flexible tanks solves both problems:
- prevents permeation into the hull structure;
- eliminates issues with stray currents that cause corrosion.
Of course, even flexible tanks age, and we recommend replacing them after 10 years. However, disassembly and subsequent reinstallation in their location can be done without significant structural issues, thanks to their flexibility.
The flexible structure of the tank wall is made of a nylon fabric coated with a fuel-resistant compound (approximately 1.3/1.4 mm thick). The interior of the tanks can be conveniently filled with an open-cell polyurethane sponge that serves an anti-slosh and anti-explosion function.
